The City of Canton’s permit application for water rights and a new reservoir on Grand Saline Creek is in review at Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), and we’re tracking the process closely.
Here’s the estimated timeline:
Current Status | Administrative & Technical Reviews (3–6 months): TCEQ checks the application for completeness and technical details, which may take longer if data (e.g., land records, studies) is incomplete.
Public Notice (Likely 3–6 months from now): A 30-day window opens for submitting letters of opposition. Anyone can comment, but only affected persons (e.g., landowners, downstream users, environmental groups) can request a contested case hearing and become Protestants if granted party status.
Contested Case Hearing (6-15 months): If TCEQ grants hearing requests from one or more Protestants, the State Office of Administrative Hearings (SOAH) schedules a consolidated hearing within 4–12 months. After the hearing, SOAH issues a Proposal for Decision (PFD) within 60–90…
